How to Specify the Seat Comfort of a Custom Sofa
· TY Furniture Factory
Begin with a sofa you know
A photograph communicates shape but cannot communicate how a seat feels. If you already own a comfortable sofa, measure its seat height and the usable depth between the front edge and back cushion. Explain what you like and what you would change. If you cannot provide measurements, describe whether you sit upright, curl up or lounge with your legs raised.
Separate firmness from support
A soft first impression does not tell you whether a cushion will feel supportive after you sit for an hour. Ask what cushion construction is proposed and how the back cushions affect usable depth. State whether the sofa is for a formal sitting room, daily family use or a hospitality space. Do not assume that one foam density or filling is universally best.
Confirm the drawing and materials
Check the overall depth against usable seat depth, seat height and back angle. The upholstery cover and cushion construction should be identified in the approved specification. If a fabric sample is available, compare its hand feel and appearance in your own light. A computer rendering cannot prove comfort or exact colour.
Decide whether a sample is needed
For a larger order, ask whether a physical sample can be built and what it will represent. Record any changes from the sample before approving wider production. For a single piece, approve the CAD drawing and written cushion specification, and discuss what can reasonably be confirmed without sitting on a finished sample. See our sofa designs and send the code of the piece you prefer.
