Custom Cabinets: Plan Storage Before Choosing the Exterior
· TY Furniture Factory
List what the cabinet must hold
A beautiful front elevation may conceal shelves that do not fit your belongings. List the largest items, their dimensions and how often you reach for them. Ask for clear internal opening dimensions rather than using only the outside width and height of the cabinet.
Choose the opening method with the room
Sketch nearby walls, furniture and walking space. Swing doors need clearance; drawers need pull-out room; heavy items need suitable support. Identify where access is restricted and ask the factory to show the selected hinge, handle and opening direction on the drawing.
Clarify installation conditions
Tell the factory whether the unit is freestanding or intended to be fixed to a wall. Provide relevant wall and floor information to the local installer and ask what attachment method is appropriate. Do not assume a photograph establishes safe fixing details for your building.
Review every visible face
If one side or the back will be visible, mark it on the plan. Confirm the finish, edge details, interior colour and any lighting or electrical provisions in writing. The final CAD drawing should connect those choices to shelf spacing and door or drawer layout.
