Bulk Custom Furniture: What Should a Pre-Production Sample Prove?
· TY Furniture Factory
Define the sample's purpose
Before asking for a sample, decide which risks it should resolve. A chair sample may test seat comfort and proportions; a cabinet sample may test door action and finish; a sofa sample may test seams and cushions. One sample cannot prove every future unit will be identical, but it can establish an agreed reference.
Use the intended specification
Link the sample to the current drawing revision, material codes and planned construction. If a temporary substitute material is necessary, record what is different and avoid approving that part as though it represented the final product. Note the inspection date and participants.
Inspect systematically
Compare overall dimensions and visible details with the approved drawing. Test moving parts or seating where relevant. Photograph front, sides, back and critical close-ups. Write down every change as an item-specific instruction rather than relying on memory or a verbal comment.
Close changes before scaling
After corrections, agree which revised sample or written record governs production. Ask how the factory will apply it to the wider order and how later quality checks will refer back to it. TY can arrange a sample for bulk orders according to buyer requirements; discuss timing and scope before assuming it is included.
